More about Monica
The Bio-Health Centre was established in 1998 shortly after Monica returned home having nursed abroad for 20 years. Monica’s aspirations are that all patients living with Lymphoedema get early intervention to enable them to live life comfortably.
As a Health Care Professional for many years Monica qualified in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) in 2004 after training at the Dr Vodder School in Austria. Having a passion in care of patients suffering from Lymphoedema, Lipoedema and related vascular conditions, Monica achieved a master’s degree in Lymphoedema Practice at Bradford University and graduated in 2013 and was the first to do so in Ireland. This qualification enables Monica to not only treat your condition but to give you a conclusive diagnosis.

At the Bio-Health Centre there are a range of therapies available that enhance the flow of lymph drainage including the use of Deep Tissue Oscillation Therapy in conjunction with traditional MLD, CDT and the application of Kinesio Tape.
Monica is a trained fitter of many ranges of compression garments, these include both ready-to-wear and custom fitted. Other therapies available include Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Advance Orthopaedic Massage.

All patients will recieve a full assessment at first consultation. Written consent from their GP/Consultant before treatment commences and blood tests may be required in some cases.

The treatment consists of Manual Lymph Drainage which is a gentle but specialised form of massage that enhances the flow of lymph fluid. MLD consists of very light, rhythmic, calming hand movements which stretches the skin to stimulate the lymphatic system. The lymph is drained along specific pathways into the deeper lymphatics and it finally enters the blood stream at the neck.
After MLD the limb is bandaged using multi-layered bandages. Once reduction in swelling is achieved, a compression garment is fitted to maintain the reduction.
